Jul. 30, 2024—An innovative equity program offers access to local state parks and their educational programming for children from schools that serve low-income communities. Teachers from 48 schools in Santa Clara County and 37 schools in San Mateo County can apply for a chance to take their class on an unforgettable field trip to a beautiful beach or redwood forest!

Since the launch of Kids2Parks nine years ago, more than 16,000 children have experienced the wonders of our beautiful mountains and ocean—many for the first time. A collaboration between California State Parks and Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks, the program covers the cost of renting buses that bring students to visit one of eight state parks or beaches including Castle Rock, Castro Adobe, Half Moon Bay, Henry Cowell Redwoods, Natural Bridges, Santa Cruz Mission, Seacliff and Wilder Ranch.

“I believe our trip was one of the best, if not the best field trip of my career,” said one teacher, while another said the experience was “life-changing” for their students.

Teachers at eligible Title 1 schools in Santa Cruz, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties can apply for field trips for the 2024-25 school year from July 29 to Aug. 18.
