The Bay Area is renowned for its expansive and accessible open spaces, but is there any guarantee that they’ll stay that way? As construction continues and the population bourgeons, it becomes increasingly difficult to balance development with environmental and recreational needs. Good thing the bay area population is also renowned for its ecofriendly bent and for organizations such as the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority.
Santa Clara County community members were so determined to protect open spaces that they asked the state legislature to create an independent special district to do so. That special district is the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority. The Open Space Authority purchases and preserves ecological, recreational, and agricultural properties and leads educational events to help visitors enjoy them. Stargazing, guided hikes, and volunteer planting days, trail building, and habitat restoration days are a few of the adventures the Open Space Authority enjoys hosting. Find out more at the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority website.
