Kids are welcome on this 4.5-hour ramble through Picchetti Ranch Preserve in search of the pearly everlasting, which smells like maple syrup. Or does it...? We'll take Orchard Loop and Zinfandel Trail and picnic at Stevens Creek County Park halfway through. Bring water and something to eat. Naturally, a stop at the Picchetti Ranch historic winery is an option for afterward.
Meet at the Preserve parking lot on Montebello Road. From the intersection of I-280 and Foothill Expressway, go 3.5 miles southwest (toward the mountains) on Foothill Boulevard/Stevens Canyon Road. Turn right on Montebello Rd. The Preserve is 0.5 miles up Montebello Rd. on the left.
