Bay Area Ridge Trail to Skyline Open Space Preserve Boundary and back.
1.8 miles; no elevation gain; 1 hour on foot; easy
This short out-and-back hike starts from the Grizzly Flat parking area, and is great for dog-walking and horseback riding. This trail is ideal for adding mileage and fun to a mountain bike ride in the preserve. It parallels Skyline Boulevard within the park as well as following the creek gulch on the left hand side.
This trail is open and sunny on warm days; keep your eyes peeled for wildlife such as the red tailed hawk. There is significant traffic noise due to its proximity to the road; even so, this hike is a tantalizing tidbit of the Bay Area Ridge trail, which continues around the entirety of the Bay Area.
