The sandy cliffs surely show how this beach got its name.
The low sandstone cliffs become more of a wall at Dunes Beach, limiting access to two big slides of sand on the north and south ends of the parking lot. This beach is particularly popular with families; kids leap from sand ledges, moms play catch with their sons, foot races ensue and general revelry abounds. Social trails cut across the cliffs above the action where a rip current warning reminds ocean goers to be wary. A quick walk on the sand or Coastside Trail offers easy access to Sweetwater or Venice Beach to the south or Roosevelt Beach to the north.
