Sierra Club, Loma Prieta Chapter

Most folks have heard of the Sierra Club, the eco-activism standard founded by famed conservationist John Muir back in 1892. The non-profit giant claims to be the “largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization” in the U.S. And with 2.4 million members and supporters that have protected 250 million acres, retired over 160 coal-powered plants, and collectively hold over 20,000 local and international outings annually – it’s hard to argue.

But how do they get all those “grassroots” feet (often young and awfully enthusiastic) on the ground? Local chapters is how, there are 64 of them in all, including the Palo Alto based Loma Prieta Chapter. Serving San Benito, San Mateo, & Santa Clara Counties, the Loma Prieta Chapter amplifies the Sierra Club prompt to “explore, enjoy, and protect the planet” by organizing outdoor outings (hikes and such), advocating for eco-friendly policy, and supporting environmentally aware political candidates, aspiring environmental leaders, and activists. Contact the Sierra Club’s Loma Prieta Chapter for local happenings and Earth supporting opportunities.
