Silicon Valley Mountain Bikers

Quick access to killer recreation is one of the reasons the bay area is so singular. The myriad open spaces provides ample trails for excellent mountain biking. But, in an area where loads of locals collide on their post-work workout, who decides how local public lands, and the trails running through them, are used? Usually, it’s whoever shows up at public forums and meetings.

Enter the Silicon Valley Mountain Bikers. These guys have been around since the early eighties – ’82 to be exact – though they didn’t become official till the middle of the decade. Back then they called themselves Responsible Organized Mountain Pedalers (ROMP) and got right down to advocating for mountain bike trail use. ROMP became and IMBA Chapter in 2013 and was renamed the Silicon Valley Mountain Bikers.

The non-profit organization works to open new multi-use trails, keep existing trails, and educate mountain bikers, hikers, and equestrians about proper trail use. Learn more, or just look up a bunch of local rides, on the Silicon Valley Mountain Bikers website.
