In the 1970s, bluebirds all but disappeared from the American landscape, driven out by habitat destruction, predators and competitors. Today their populations are pretty healthy. Why? Nestboxes. The things we used to call birdhouses have become more than a way to attract pretty birds to your yard—they're a conservation tool.
Today David "Tex" Houston leads a workshop at Arastradero in cleaning, repairing and and preparing nest boxes for the spring's residents and their young. Wear muted clothing and bring water. Gloves might not be a bad idea.
Arastradero Preserve. 10am. Free, but please RSVP to David 'Tex' Houston at 650.303.2777 or 350co2now@gmail.com. Map to Arastradero Preserve.
