This Independence Day, appreciate the big picture from the top of Long Ridge Open Space Preserve, which offers stunning views of the Santa Cruz Mountains all the way to Half Moon Bay. Bob Segalla and Steve Brugler lead a moderately paced five-hour, 5-mile hike with 600 feet of elevation gain. Capable kids will be able to handle this one. Expect a nice lunchtime stop at the Stegner bench.
Meet at the roadside pullout area on the west side of Skyline Boulevard, 3.6 miles north of Highway 9 or 3.3 miles south of Page Mill Road.
