A 350-acre preserve that includes that most elusive of elements, a piece of the Santa Clara Valley floor, opens between San Jose and Morgan Hill. This area was once slated for housing, but the roller coaster ride of the tech industry resulted in several well-timed pauses that allowed the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority to snap up this parcel in 2010.
Today the Open Space Authority celebrates the opening of this almost-wasn't preserve and the two trails volunteers have built through it. Bring a picnic for the family and enjoy speakers, hikes ranging from easy to challenging, games for the kids and animals from the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center.
